GALATASARAY – CAREER MODE CHALLENGE

Galatasaray A.S. is one of the biggest, if not the biggest Turkish club. The club is one of the three teams (including rivals Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe) who participated in every Süper Lig season since the league formation. Founded in 1905, the club won the Süper Lig 22 times and finished as a runner-up 13 times. They’ve also won Turkish Cup 18 times.

Galatasaray is the only Turkish club that won a major UEFA competition, which they managed to do in 1999/2000 season when they won the UEFA Cup (todays Europa League). Alongside the UEFA Cup, they also won the Süper Lig and the Turkish cup in the same season, which meant they achieved a treble in that season. They are the only Turkish club to do so.

This season, the club is participating in UEFA Europa League, where they meet with Marseille, Lazio and Lokomotiv Moscow in a group stage. Already being qualified to an European competition is a nice little bonus to this Career Mode Challenge.

Foreigner Rule

This one of the main rules for the challenge and personally the most fun part as there are not that many Turkish talents which would be realistic to sign as Galatasaray.

Note: Keep in mind that players sent on loan doesn’t count as a registered squad player, so you can actually have more foreign players, but they need to be sent on loan.

Season 2021/2022 Süper Lig clubs can have a maximum of 14 registered foreign squad players and are allowed to have maximum 8 non-Turkish players on the pitch at the same time.
Season 2022/2023 Süper Lig clubs can have a maximum of 12 registered foreign squad players and are allowed to have maximum 8 non-Turkish players on the pitch at the same time.
Season 2023/2024 Süper Lig clubs can have a maximum of 10 registered foreign squad players and are allowed to have maximum 7 non-Turkish players on the pitch at the same time.
Season 2024/2025 and onward Süper Lig clubs can have a maximum of 7 registered foreign squad players and are allowed to have maximum 6 non-Turkish players on the pitch at the same time.

Defensive Strength

Galatasaray’s defensive line-up looks pretty strong defensively with two promising centre-backs and two really good fullbacks. Victor Nelsson and Marcao make a great centre-back duo while strong Luyindama makes their backup when needed. When it comes to fullbacks, there is a 30 years-old pacy Pattrick van Aanholt and Sacha Boey who is a promising right fullback (79 potential), former newcastle player DeAndre Yedlin makes a great backup and can even put himself in starting XI!

Your goal is to try and develop those defenders and get your defence on another level. Focus your build-up play from the defence and prove yourselves in the league and European competitions. Make sure to keep Marcao and Victor Nelsson till the end of your save!

In Need Of Experience

Current Galatasaray A.S. squad consists of mainly younger players with few older veterans and footballing legends (Arda Turan, Babel, Muslera). When you do your transfers, make sure to give some love to older players who are looking forward to end their careers in Galatasaray. Your challenge is to keep Muslera in the squad till the end or when he retires. Be careful when signing players, because you must have at least two players older than 30 in your starting line-up!

Transfer Suggestions

The first suggestion is an already rumoured one, but you will need to set transfer strictness on loose.
22 year-old Romanian winger, Dennis Man was already rumoured to join Galatasaray. He is a pacy winger which gives you enough chances from the wing. He currently has 73 rating and 84 potential!

Next transfer suggestion would probably be a backup defensive midfielder for you. 20 year-old Frenchman Beka Beka playing for Lokomotiv Moscow (a team you face in Europa League in first season). He is at rating of 66 at the start and has 80 potential.

Next player is another winger from Romania, 18 years-old Octavian Popescu from FCSB (Steaua) which makes it a perfect Romanian winger duo. Popescu would be a great signing as Galatasaray mainly scouts in Turkey and Romania.

Other suggestions: Mainly sign players from Turkey and Romania. You can also sign players from other countries, but make sure the foreign player number doesn’t go above 14 (or less if you are few season in)!
